Sorry, we saw Red/White and just assumed. Is this Iowa State?

Still can't tell the difference, but we are stuck with the Rutgers-inspired Red/White/Black scheme for the next 5 years.

 The Gophers revamped their football uniforms for 2024, and they are a big upgrade:

Lots of Gold, no white numbers. Big improvement.

2023 Home look for reference:

Looking like a maroon Rutgers.

Mizzou continues to have the perfect set:

Full kits of both team colors, a white kit, lots of sharp helmets. Best of all, the stripes on the helmets, jerseys and pants all match. You can mix all three kits. Outstanding.

Our only complaint is the white numbers on the black jerseys, so the grade is only 95/100.

Iowa State, however, is going backwards.

"Hey, Nike- what's your stock look for this season? Great! And remove all the gold you can. We want to look as much like Rutgers as possible."

Aim kinda medium, folks. Kinda medium. Stock is fine.

My Uniform Complaint

I am a bit of a uniform geek, but within reason. Want to mix up your look? Great! Want to add colors that are not part of your normal palette? Bzzzzzz! Thanks for playing.

I ranted about this years ago, so here is my definition of the uniform sandbox the team can play in at home:

Red/Red/Gold: Classic home look. Wear this most of the time.
Red/Red/Red: Good alternate for home.
Red/Gold/Red: Garish, but given the alternatives for alternatives, it sure beats grey/grey.
Red/Gold/Gold: A nice throwback to what ISU wore in the 20's.
Gold/Gold/Gold: I would love a gold helmet, especially with the Criner-era logo.
Gold/Red/Gold: Another great look.

Lots of options there. Now on the road:

Red/White/Red: My preferred road kit.
Red/White/Gold: Another classic look.
White/White/Red: If the players want a white helmet, pair it with red pants.
Gold/White/Gold: Another good look that goes back to the awesome Bruce teams of the 70's.

Two pairings to avoid: The all-white look does nothing for me, and I don't want to see white pants and helmets at home. As long as the jerseys have gold numbers, white pants or helmets don't work.

While ISU has rolled out some ugly unis over the years (especially the Criner years) they've never tried anything this bad.

I was cheering against Minny based on the gold jersey alone.

Not a fan of ISU's red pants FWIW.

Fashion

Why must teams try to mimic the fashion style of the 70's Pirates?

The fashion trend in football is to have enough combinations of helmets, pants and jerseys to only wear the same combo once or twice a season has struck Baylor.

While pretty tame, long time readers know that I hate schools that have two colors in their usual combo (say, cardinal and gold) who use a bunch of white instead (CU, we're looking at you.) Too bad Baylor is drifting in the same direction.

The all gold number- helmet, jersey, pants- now that's fugly.

I hope our Cyclones can stick with what they have- it's the best uniform they've had in years, if ever.

Farewell

Since it is a Cyclone football tradition that each new coach gets new uniforms, I wish to state that I will miss these unis. Best ever, period.

Oh, and that sweatshirt you just bought with the new logo on it? Collector's item, since a new logo is part of the new uniform clause.
